Did you know that...
During physical work, only about 20% of the energy converted by a horse is actually transformed into movement. Around 80% is generated as heat. To get rid of this enormous amount of heat, evaporation through sweat is one of the horse's most important cooling mechanisms. Under normal training conditions, at least two-thirds of the heat generated can be dissipated in this way. This is precisely why it is so important after work that moisture is reliably wicked away from the body and allowed to evaporate. A breathable cooler rug supports this process while simultaneously protecting against chilling too quickly.

FAQ
When does a horse need a cooler rug?
A cooler rug is primarily used after training, lunging, hacking, or other physical exertion when the horse has been sweating. The fleece helps to transport moisture away from the coat to the outside and protects the horse from cooling down too quickly while it dries.
How does a fleece cooler rug work on a horse?
The breathable fleece material absorbs moisture from the coat and facilitates its transport to the outside of the rug. There, the moisture can evaporate more easily.
What should I do if my horse is very sweaty after training?
If the horse is sweating heavily, it may be useful to first remove as much moisture as possible directly from the coat. Our Equitowel terry cloth rug, which functions similarly to a large towel, is suitable for this purpose. Subsequently, the fleece cooler rug can be used to support further drying and to keep the horse comfortably warm during the cooling-down phase.
What is the difference between a terry cloth rug and a fleece cooler rug?
A terry cloth rug like our Equitowel, made of 100% cotton, functions similarly to a large towel. The absorbent cotton draws large amounts of moisture directly from the wet coat and binds it within the material. A fleece cooler rug works differently: the synthetic fleece material absorbs comparatively little water itself but supports the transport of moisture from the coat to the outside and dries much faster. Consequently, the Equitowel is primarily suited for directly absorbing wetness, while the fleece cooler rug is then used to support the subsequent cooling-down phase while keeping the horse comfortably warm.
How long should a cooler rug stay on the horse?
The cooler rug should be left on until the coat is largely dry and the horse has cooled down after the exertion. The time required depends on factors such as how heavily the horse has sweated, how long its coat is, and the ambient temperature and humidity.
Can I also use the cooler rug after washing the horse?
No. After washing, a cooler rug is not suitable for supporting the drying of the coat. If the horse is very wet, the Equitowel terry cloth rug can be used to absorb a larger portion of the water directly.
What does 280 g/m² mean for a cooler rug?
This figure describes the weight per unit area of the fleece material used. At 280 g/m², the rug offers a comfortably warming material thickness while being suitable for typical use as a cooler rug after training, tournaments, or transport.

- everyday stable life and competitions when a lightweight and functional sweat rug is needed
Tip: For horses that sweat heavily, sweat rugs can become very damp after a while. In this case, it is advisable to put on a dry rug after about 20 to 30 minutes so that moisture can continue to be transported away effectively and your horse dries evenly.
A good sweat rug helps your horse dry in a controlled way after training while staying protected from cooling down. Especially after intense work, it is important that moisture is quickly moved away from the skin. The fleece sweat rug combines functional material with a modern design and ensures that your horse continues to feel comfortable even after training. The breathable fleece transports moisture outward, while the lightweight structure supports pleasant temperature regulation.
-
Limited colour collection – style that stands out: This sweat rug is part of a limited colour collection and is therefore only available for a limited time. This gives it a special character within the collection.
-
6 colours for an individual look – matched to your style: Different horses and riders have different preferences. With six colour options, you can choose exactly the shade that matches your horse, your equipment, or your personal style. This turns a functional sweat rug into a real eye-catcher at the same time.
-
Double-sided anti-pilling fleece – durable and soft: The high-quality fleece is made so that the material stays smooth even with frequent use and forms significantly fewer fluff balls or pills. At the same time, the fleece feels pleasantly soft and provides optimal comfort for your horse.
-
Breathable – supports natural temperature regulation: A balanced climate is essential during the wicking-off process. The breathable material enables continuous air circulation so that excess heat can escape. This helps prevent heat from building up under the rug.
-
Quick-drying – ideal after training: The fleece quickly absorbs moisture and transports it outward. This helps your horse dry faster after training without cold moisture remaining on the skin. It reduces the risk of cooling down and supports recovery after work.
-
Machine-washable – uncomplicated in everyday use: After intensive use, the rug can be easily cleaned in the washing machine at 30°C. This keeps it hygienically clean and quickly ready for use again without elaborate care in everyday stable life.
-
T-front closure – secure and easy to fasten: The practical T-front closure ensures a stable fit in the chest area and can be opened and closed quickly. At the same time, it distributes the pulling forces evenly so that the rug lies calmly and does not slip.
Did you know that… many horses continue sweating even after training, although they are already standing still or being walked in hand? During this phase, the body continues to release heat. A sweat rug can help move the resulting moisture away from the coat. However, if the rug becomes heavily soaked, it can no longer absorb additional moisture and begins to draw heat away. That is why, for horses that sweat heavily, it is advisable to change the rug as soon as it becomes noticeably damp so the wicking-off process can continue evenly and gently.
FAQ about the fleece sweat rug:

How long should a sweat rug stay on the horse?

Should you change a sweat rug when it is wet?
Yes, if a horse has sweated heavily, the rug can quickly become damp. If it becomes completely soaked, it can no longer absorb additional moisture. In that case, it is advisable to put on a dry sweat rug so the horse can continue to dry evenly. -
