Did you know that...
wet coat insulates significantly worse than a dry one? The insulating effect of a horse's coat is created, among other things, by air trapped between the hairs. If the coat becomes heavily soaked, part of this air cushion is lost and body heat can be released more quickly. When is a fleece cooler rug particularly useful?
It is particularly suitable after training, hacks, or tournament appearances when the coat is damp from sweat. The fleece absorbs the moisture, wicks it to the outside, and helps the horse to dry.
What is the difference between a fleece cooler rug and a softshell cooler rug?
A classic fleece cooler rug focuses primarily on moisture wicking, breathability, and comfortable warmth while drying. Due to its outer layer, a softshell cooler rug additionally offers more protection against wind and light moisture. Which version is more sensible therefore depends primarily on the place of use and the weather.
Why is fleece so well-suited for cooling down?
Polar fleece can absorb moisture from the coat and transfer it to the outside, while the material remains breathable at the same time. This allows the horse to dry without moisture remaining unnecessarily in the coat.
How do I know when my horse has finished cooling down?
Regularly check the coat under the rug. If it is largely dry and the horse feels pleasantly warm, the cooler rug has fulfilled its purpose. Afterwards, it can be removed or, if necessary, replaced with the appropriate stable or outdoor rug.
Why do horses with thick winter coats often take longer to cool down?
Thick coats can store significantly more sweat. As a result, it takes longer for the moisture to evaporate completely. Especially after intensive work, a functional cooler rug supports the drying process and prevents the horse from standing with a damp coat for a long time.
Can the cooler rug also be worn during transport?
Yes, the detachable surcingles ensure that the rug stays securely in place even when moving. This can be especially practical after training. During the journey, however, you should still check whether your horse is getting too warm, as horses produce additional body heat when balancing in the horsebox.
What does anti-pilling mean for a fleece cooler rug?
Anti-pilling means that the fleece is less prone to forming small fiber knots. As a result, the surface remains smooth, soft, and well-maintained for longer, even with regular use and frequent washing.
When should I use the surcingles and when can I remove them?
If your horse is moving freely with the rug, for example in the box or during transport, the inner surcingles provide additional support and at the same time ensure a particularly neat look. When cooling down in a controlled manner at the grooming area, you can remove them if required.
Can I also use the cooler rug after washing my horse?

- Check the fit regularly to avoid pressure marks or chafing.
- Do not leave on the horse unattended, especially in the stable or in the pasture, if there is a risk of it getting caught.
- Do not make any unauthorized modifications or repairs to the product.
- Clean only according to the care label – do not use chemical cleaning agents, bleach, or solvents.
- Allow to dry completely after cleaning before the rug is used again or stored.
- Do not store or dry near open flames, heat sources, or chemical substances.
