does the shape of a horse's back actually change under the saddle while in motion? Studies show that the back becomes flatter at the walk and trot than it is when standing. This is precisely why an anatomical shape and balanced padding are so important: a good saddle pad should not only feel like a proper fit when the horse is standing, but also account for its back during movement.

What is the difference between a jumping saddle pad and a dressage saddle pad?

A jumping saddle pad is cut further forward at the front to follow the shape of a jumping saddle. A dressage saddle pad, on the other hand, is significantly straighter and is designed for the long saddle flaps of a dressage saddle.

How should the jumping saddle pad sit at the withers?

When saddling, it should be pulled well up into the saddle gullet and lie flat against the back. This keeps the withers free and ensures that the saddle pad is not pressed onto this sensitive area by the weight of the rider.

Why is a thicker jumping saddle pad not automatically better?

Additional padding changes the space between the horse's back and the saddle. If a saddle is correctly fitted, too much material can even adversely affect its fit. A balanced padding thickness offers comfort without unnecessarily lifting the saddle or making it tighter.

Take-off, landing, and galloping bring significantly more movement to the saddle area. Billet straps and girth loops therefore help to stabilize the saddle pad. If it consistently shifts significantly forward or backward despite being attached correctly, the fit and position of the saddle should also be checked.

Is heavy sweating under the jumping saddle pad a problem?

Sweating during intensive work is a normal reaction for a horse. It is important that moisture is not unnecessarily trapped in the material. The moisture-wicking construction supports the transport of moisture away from the horse's back, thereby ensuring a more comfortable climate during training.

What should I do with a sweaty jumping saddle pad after training?

Remove it from the saddle after unsaddling and let it dry completely while open. Sweat, hair, and heavier soiling can be removed regularly by machine washing so that the side facing the horse's back remains hygienically clean.
