Did you know that...
Lungeing rugs can positively support a horse's biomechanical activity? Without protection, the back muscles often react to cold or wet weather with unconscious tension, which leads to shorter strides, less impulsion, and a generally stiffer topline. A lightweight, breathable rain rug keeps the superficial muscles warm and dry, so the horse is not occupied with protective reflexes but can work loosely over the back from the very beginning. This makes training sessions in bad weather not only more pleasant, but biomechanically often even more efficient than without a horse rug.

FAQ
Is the lunging rug waterproof?
With a water column of 3,000 mm, the rug offers reliable protection against rain and moisture. It keeps the horse dry even during longer downpours while remaining breathable, allowing heat to escape.
What does “1200D Ripstop” mean and why is it important?
1200D refers to the strength and weave of the lunging rug. It indicates the material density of the fabric, where “D” stands for denier, a unit of measurement for fiber thickness. Ripstop describes a special weaving technique in which reinforced fibers are woven into a grid pattern. This structure prevents small tears from spreading, making the lunging rug more durable and resistant to damage. These properties are particularly important to ensure that the walker rug lasts a long time and is not easily damaged even under heavy use, such as in pasture turnout or with horses that move around a lot.
How is breathability ensured?
The breathability of our lunging rug is ensured by the Ripstop fabric used, which has an air permeability of 3,000 g/m². This allows moisture and heat to escape from the horse while simultaneously keeping moisture out. This is why it is important that rain rugs do not have a water column exceeding 5,000 mm. A higher water column would impair breathability, causing the horse to sweat quickly under the walker rug.
What does 3,000 g/m² breathability mean?
This figure describes how well moisture (e.g., sweat) is transported through the material to the outside to ensure a comfortable climate for the horse. In this case, 3,000 grams of water vapor can escape per square meter of material within a day. This keeps the horse dry and avoids overheating or moisture buildup.
Can moisture or heat build up under the lunging rug?
Thanks to the high breathability of our walker rug and the Ripstop fabric technology used, no moisture or heat can build up under the rug. The lunging rug allows for effective ventilation, so excess heat and moisture are released while rain and wetness are kept out. This keeps your horse dry and comfortable without unpleasant heat buildup under the rug.
How easy is the material to care for?
Our rain rugs and winter rugs are very easy to care for and can be machine washed at 30 degrees. This makes cleaning simple and fast. However, we would like to point out that repeated washing can gradually weaken the rug's waterproofing over time. To maintain the waterproof properties and protection of the horse rugs, we recommend regularly retreating the rug or using special waterproofing agents.
What is a lunging rug used for?
A lunging rug protects the horse from moisture, wind, and cold during lunging work without restricting its freedom of movement. It enables consistent training conditions even when the weather is unsettled. This allows the horse to work loosely without tensing its muscles due to external influences like rain or cold.
How visible are the reflective elements in low light or from a distance?
At twilight and in complete darkness, the reflective elements of the lunging rug are extremely visible – even from a great distance. They work on the same principle as safety vests in cars, ensuring maximum visibility and safety for your horse. A phone flash or a phone flashlight is sufficient to make the reflective elements clearly visible.
Can the lunging rug improve the horse’s back movement?
Indirectly, yes. When cold or moisture are eliminated, the horse does not need to react with protective reflexes and can swing through its back more quickly. This often leads to a more relaxed, efficient movement pattern.

The waterproof lunging rug “Cornwell” was developed to ensure consistent training conditions, even when the weather is less than ideal. Especially during lunging work, the back muscles react sensitively to cold, wind, or moisture. The durable 1200D Ripstop material provides reliable protection against wind and weather while remaining pleasantly lightweight for unrestricted movement. Thanks to the combination of breathability and a fleece lining, the muscles stay dry, sufficiently warm, and well supplied with blood circulation—without overheating. The elastic chest closure and belly straps ensure that the rug remains stable even during large strides and changes of gait. This allows the horse to move freely through the back from the very beginning, rather than tensing up against external weather influences.
-
1200D Ripstop – maximum strength, long-lasting protection: Thanks to its special weave structure, this material is particularly tear-resistant and durable. It offers excellent protection against external elements such as rain, wind, and dirt, while remaining long-lasting and easy to care for. Even with intensive use, the material holds up reliably and ensures that your horse stays well protected.
-
0g fill – protective and pleasantly lightweight: This lunging rug ensures that the horse remains optimally tempered during training or movement without adding extra weight or warmth. The 0g construction allows for maximum freedom of movement and comfort while still protecting against external influences.
-
3,000 mm waterproof rating – reliable protection from wet conditions, ideal for changeable weather: With a waterproof rating of 3,000 mm, the lunging rug reliably protects against heavy rain while maintaining breathability. This level of waterproofing ensures that the horse stays dry even during prolonged periods of rain, making it perfectly suited for variable weather conditions or sudden showers.
-
Breathable – moisture escapes for a comfortable wearing experience: With an ISO-certified breathability of 3,000 g/m², this horse walker rug ensures optimal moisture regulation. High breathability allows sweat and excess heat to escape efficiently, keeping your horse dry and comfortably tempered. Ideal for active horses and changeable weather.
-
Fleece lining on the inside – cozy on the inside, protected on the outside: During relaxed walking sessions, the fleece lining helps keep the muscles warm and supports blood circulation. After training moisture and excess heat are effectively transported outward thanks to the rug’s high breathability, allowing your horse to dry quickly and feel comfortable. The fleece not only provides a pleasant temperature but also supports natural moisture wicking.
-
Adjustable elastic chest closure – ideal for unrestricted movement: The elastic chest closure adapts to the horse’s natural movement and maintains its position even during fast or intensive motion. This ensures a comfortable fit while optimizing stability. The elastic closure offers an ideal balance between comfort and security, allowing your horse to move freely and without restriction.
-
Reflective elements – increased visibility for enhanced safety: The edging of the lunging rug is made from reflective material, improving visibility and safety. It ensures that your horse is clearly visible from all angles at dusk or in low-light conditions.
-
With belly straps – secure fit with every movement: The fixation system ensures that the horse walker rug remains securely in place, even when the horse takes large strides or changes gait. The stable fit supports a calm training routine and gives you the confidence that everything stays where it should. This allows you to fully focus on your work without constant adjustments.
Did you know… Lunging rugs can positively support the horse’s biomechanical activity. Without protection, the back muscles often react to cold or wet conditions with unconscious tension, leading to shorter strides, reduced swing, and a tighter topline overall. A lightweight, breathable rain rug keeps the superficial muscles warm and dry, so the horse does not have to engage in protective reflexes and can work relaxed through the back from the very beginning. This makes training sessions in poor weather not only more pleasant but often biomechanically more efficient than working without a horse rug.
FAQ Lunging Rug “Cornwell”
Material
-
Is the lunging rug waterproof?
With a waterproof rating of 3,000 mm, the rug provides reliable protection against rain and wet conditions. It keeps the horse dry even during prolonged showers while remaining breathable so that heat can escape. -
What does “1200D Ripstop” mean and why is it important?
1200D refers to the strength and fabric density of the rug, with “D” standing for Denier, a unit measuring fiber thickness. Ripstop describes a special weaving technique in which reinforced fibers are woven into a grid pattern. This structure prevents small tears from spreading, making the rug more durable and resistant to damage. These properties are particularly important to ensure that the horse walker rug withstands heavy use, such as during turnout or with horses that are frequently in motion. -
How is breathability ensured?
Breathability is ensured by the Ripstop fabric used, which offers an air permeability of 3,000 g/m². This allows moisture and heat to escape from the horse while preventing external moisture from penetrating. For this reason, rain rugs should not exceed a waterproof rating of 5,000 mm, as higher ratings would negatively affect breathability and cause the horse to sweat more quickly under the rug. -
What does 3,000 g/m² breathability mean?
This value describes how effectively moisture (such as sweat) is transported outward through the material to maintain a comfortable climate for the horse. In this case, 3,000 grams of water vapor per square meter can escape within 24 hours, helping to keep the horse dry and preventing overheating or moisture buildup. -
Can moisture or heat build up under the lunging rug?
Thanks to the high breathability of our horse walker rug and the Ripstop fabric technology used, moisture and heat do not build up under the rug. Excess heat and moisture are efficiently released while rain and wet conditions are kept out, ensuring that your horse remains dry and comfortable without overheating. -
How easy is the material to care for?
Our rain rugs and winter rugs are very easy to care for and can be machine washed at 30°C. Cleaning is quick and uncomplicated. Please note, however, that repeated washing may gradually reduce the effectiveness of the waterproof coating. To maintain waterproof performance and protection, we recommend regular reproofing or the use of suitable waterproofing products.
