The “Monaco” dressage girth was developed for riders who place great importance on comfort, stability and a calm girth position both in daily training and at competitions. As a short girth, it is specifically designed for dressage saddles with long billets and ensures that the saddle remains securely and evenly fixed. At the same time, its anatomical shape supports the horse’s natural movement pattern and provides more room in the shoulder area so that the horse can move its forehand freely. The high-quality genuine leather lies softly against the skin and is complemented by additional padding that reduces pressure points and protects the sensitive girth area. Elastic inserts make re-girthing easier and adapt to the horse’s breathing, creating a comfortable fit. In combination with sturdy stainless steel fittings, roller buckles and handcrafted workmanship, this results in a dressage girth that is both functional and durable and reliably supports both rider and horse in daily training.

  • Anatomical fit – more freedom for the shoulder: The anatomical shape of the dressage girth creates more space in the shoulder area. This supports the horse’s natural movement pattern while keeping the girth stable in the girth area. Especially in dressage training, where fine aids and active hindquarters are important, this fit helps the horse move freely and in relaxation.

  • Soft genuine leather – naturally strong and durable: The high-quality leather adapts optimally to the shape of the horse while remaining pleasantly soft. This reduces rubbing and ensures a comfortable feel. At the same time, genuine leather impresses with its durability and premium appearance.

  • Extra padding – noticeable relief for the girth area: The additional padding distributes the pressure of the girth evenly over a larger area. This protects sensitive zones and reduces pressure points. For the horse, this means more comfort during training and a more pleasant girth feel.

  • Handcrafted – precise workmanship down to the last detail: Every short girth is carefully handcrafted. This precise workmanship ensures strong seams, clean transitions and especially high overall quality. The result is a durable girth that remains reliable even with intensive use.

  • Easy-care – uncomplicated in daily use: The high-quality leather is easy to clean and can be kept supple with leather care. This keeps the girth attractive and functional for a long time, even with daily use.

  • Roller buckles – effortless re-girthing: The integrated roller buckles make re-girthing much easier. The roller reduces friction on the billet and allows even tightening with less effort. At the same time, the leather of the billets is protected.

  • Rust-free stainless steel fittings – reliably durable: The sturdy fittings made of rust-free stainless steel are especially resistant to moisture, sweat and daily use. This keeps the short girth functional and secure over the long term.

  • Elastic inserts – movement-friendly in daily use: The elastic inserts make re-girthing easier and allow the girth to adapt slightly to the horse’s breathing. This creates less pressure on the ribcage while the saddle still remains stably fixed.

  • With D-rings for auxiliary reins – versatile in training: The integrated D-rings allow easy attachment of auxiliary reins or breastplates. This allows the dressage girth to be used flexibly in different training situations.

Did you know that… riding saddles were not originally differentiated by discipline for a long time? For many centuries, riders mainly used so-called military or cavalry saddles that were developed for long rides, manoeuvres and use in war. It was only in the 19th century, when riding disciplines such as dressage and jumping became increasingly specialized, that saddlers began to develop different saddle types. This gradually led to today’s dressage saddles with longer saddle flaps and long billets, as well as jumping saddles with shorter flaps for greater freedom of movement over fences.

FAQ about the “Monaco” dressage girth:

Comfort

  • What is the difference between a dressage girth and a regular girth?
A dressage girth is shorter because dressage saddles have long billets. This means the buckles sit higher and do not come into contact with the horse’s sensitive elbow area.

  • Why is an anatomical shape important in a dressage girth?
An anatomical shape creates more space in the shoulder area and supports the horse’s natural movement. At the same time, it distributes pressure more evenly across the girth area.

  • What length should a dressage girth be?
The correct length depends on the saddle and the horse’s conformation. Ideally, the buckles should sit a few centimetres above the elbow area. This prevents them from rubbing or causing pressure when the foreleg is brought forward.

  • How tight should a dressage girth be?
The girth should be tight enough to keep the saddle stable, but not so tight that it causes pressure or discomfort. As a guideline, there should be about two fingers of space between the girth and the horse. It is also important to girth up evenly on both sides. Elastic inserts provide an additional advantage here. They make re-girthing easier and allow the girth to adapt slightly to the horse’s breathing and movement.

Material

  • Why is leather often used for dressage girths?
Leather is durable, adapts to the shape of the horse and remains supple for a long time with proper care. This creates a comfortable contact with the horse’s skin.

  • How do I care for a leather dressage girth properly?
After riding, sweat should be removed. With regular leather care, the material remains supple and retains its premium appearance.

Function

  • What are the D-rings on the dressage girth for?
Auxiliary reins or training aids can be attached to the D-rings. This allows the girth to be adapted flexibly to different training situations.

  • Are elastic inserts useful in a dressage girth?
Yes. Elastic inserts make re-girthing easier and adapt slightly to the horse’s breathing. This creates less pressure on the ribcage while the girth still remains stable.

Toller Gurt

Der Gurt ist schön weich und lässt sich sehr gut reinigen. Meine Stute hat genug Platz an den Ellenbogen und läuft auch um einiges besser.
