The winter blanket “Alaska” with 450 g filling is designed for winter phases in which your horse needs not just short-term warmth, but consistently protective insulation over many hours. Especially in frost, wind and damp cold, the strong filling helps keep the thermal balance stable and reduces cooling during rest phases. At the same time, the robust 1200D ripstop outer material ensures durability in everyday use, while the waterproof and breathable outer layer protects the horse from moisture and supports a comfortable climate under the blanket. This keeps your horse warm, dry and comfortable.

  • Hook&Hold – flexible combination, secure fixation: The SUNRIDE blanket combination system allows you to expand the Alaska winter blanket with up to two underblankets depending on weather conditions. A loop and hook-and-loop fastener at the shoulder, combined with a practical clip system at the end of the blanket, keep everything securely in place – even during movement. Especially in rapidly changing weather, the system proves to be a flexible companion. You can combine a maximum of two underblankets with one outer blanket.

  • 1200D ripstop – maximum strength, long-lasting protection: 1200D ripstop is designed for heavy use – exactly what a winter blanket must withstand in daily wear. The ripstop weave structure acts like a safety net within the fabric: small damages are prevented from spreading further. At the same time, the material is resistant to dirt, abrasion and the typical stresses of stable and pasture life. The result is a blanket that provides long-term protection and remains reliable throughout the winter season.

  • 450g filling – maximum warmth in freezing temperatures: The 450 g filling is designed for cold, persistent winter conditions with icy temperatures. It forms a pronounced insulating layer that stores body heat and distributes it evenly around the horse’s body. Especially during rest phases – at night, during long standing periods or in icy winds – this consistent insulation helps reduce unnoticed heat loss. This ensures the horse remains comfortably temperature-regulated at all times.

  • 3,000 mm water column – protection against moisture, ideal for changeable weather: With a water column of 3,000 mm, the SUNRIDE winter blanket reliably protects against rain while maintaining breathability. This means your horse remains well protected even in variable weather or sudden rain showers. The seams along the back line are welded and sealed to prevent water penetration. However, under extreme conditions or prolonged rainfall, a small amount of moisture may pass through these areas. For this reason, we classify the blanket as water-resistant rather than fully waterproof.

  • Breathable – moisture escapes for a comfortable wearing climate: With an ISO-certified breathability of 3,000 g/m², this stable blanket ensures optimal moisture regulation. This high level of breathability allows sweat and excess heat to be reliably released to the outside, while your horse remains dry and comfortably temperature-regulated. Perfect for active horses or changeable weather.

  • With attachment for neck cover – additional protection when needed: Neck covers perfectly complement SUNRIDE horse blankets by covering the sensitive neck area and providing targeted protection against rain, wind and cold. They can be attached to the blanket in seconds using a simple clip system. The neck covers are available in different thicknesses, allowing protection to be individually adjusted to temperature, weather conditions and your horse’s warmth requirements. Especially in cold, wet weather, a neck cover can help prevent your horse from cooling down and reduce the risk of colds or muscle tension.

  • Belly straps and removable leg straps – for secure fit and easy handling: The straps are individually adjustable and easy to open and close, making handling particularly straightforward. The leg straps are also removable, allowing you to adapt the blanket flexibly to your horse’s needs.

  • Reflective elements – increased visibility for greater safety: The logo and edging of the winter blanket are made from reflective material, enhancing your horse’s visibility and safety. This ensures that your horse is clearly visible from all angles at dusk or in darkness.

  • Optional chest extension – adapts to every horse: Ensures an optimal fit even for broad-built horses or those between sizes. This clever feature allows individual adjustment so the stable blanket fits comfortably while maintaining maximum freedom of movement. Whether a strong neck base or special proportions – the chest extension makes the winter blanket versatile and adaptable to almost any body shape. This keeps your horse fully protected and comfortable at all times.

Did you know that… 450g winter blankets are most effective during rest phases? With a 450g filling, a particularly stable insulating layer is created, significantly slowing the horse’s natural heat loss. This is especially important when the horse is not moving – for example at night, during long standing periods or in cold rest phases. During these times, the body produces less internal heat, and this is exactly where a 450g blanket helps maintain existing warmth evenly instead of constantly having to regenerate it.

FAQ about the “Alaska” winter blanket 450g:

Innovation

  • How does the Hook&Hold system work with the Alaska winter blanket?
Hook&Hold securely connects the Alaska winter blanket with up to two underblankets. Loops with hook-and-loop fasteners at the shoulder provide stable guidance, while a clip system at the end of the blanket secures the underblankets. This keeps all layers calm and stable on the horse without slipping – even during movement or rolling. This is especially practical if you want to react flexibly to changing winter weather.

  • Can I use Hook&Hold with blankets from other manufacturers?
Hook&Hold is specifically designed for SUNRIDE outer and underblankets. This is the only way to ensure that the position, length and fixation of the connection points align properly and that the combination remains stable in everyday use.

Material

  • What does a 450g filling mean in a winter blanket?
450g describes the amount of filling and thus the insulation strength of the blanket. The practical effect: a pronounced insulating layer stores body heat and helps keep the thermal balance stable over many hours. Especially in frost, wind and long rest phases, this consistent warmth performance is crucial for comfort and well-being.

  • At what temperatures is a 450g winter blanket used?
A 450g winter blanket is typically used at temperatures of around 0 °C to –15 °C. In this range, the natural insulation of many horses – especially in cold, wind or wet conditions – is no longer sufficient to maintain a stable thermal balance. The strong filling helps reduce heat loss and ensures an even temperature level over longer periods of time.

  • Why is a 450g blanket particularly useful in frost?
In frost, the body continuously loses heat even when the horse is standing still. A 450g filling does not act selectively, but builds a stable insulating layer that slows heat loss. This helps the organism save energy, as less internal heat needs to be produced – an important factor for well-being and resilience during winter.

  • Why is 1200D ripstop useful for a winter blanket?
1200D describes a high material strength. Ripstop is a weaving technique that prevents small tears from spreading further. In everyday winter use, where blankets are exposed to greater stress (dirt, moisture, friction), this results in significantly greater durability and long-term reliable protection.

  • What does 3,000 g/m² breathability mean for horse blankets?
This value describes how much water vapour per square meter can escape to the outside within 24 hours. In practical terms, this means that moisture generated under the blanket is dissipated. As a result, the climate under the blanket remains drier and more comfortable, even when temperature and activity fluctuate.

Function

  • Is the neck cover included?
No, the neck cover is not included and can be added optionally. Neck covers are available in different thicknesses, allowing you to adjust neck protection individually according to temperature, weather conditions and your horse’s warmth requirements.

  • Does the blanket stay securely in place during movement?
Yes. Adjustable belly straps ensure a stable fit, while removable leg straps provide additional fixation when needed. This keeps the blanket securely in place during movement without restricting freedom of movement.

  • What is the optional chest extension used for?
It creates additional space in the chest and shoulder area – particularly helpful for broader horses, strong neck bases or horses between sizes. This improves the fit and allows the blanket to sit more comfortably without creating pressure.

  • How reflective are the reflective elements in practice?
The reflective details react even to normal light, such as stable lighting or vehicle headlights. Especially during the darker season, this significantly increases visibility and supports safety in the stable and yard area.
