When carrying, transporting, or storing the saddle, pulled-up stirrups move slightly against the saddle flap. Metal, dirt, and fine sand particles can rub against the leather, causing scratches or dull spots over time. The stirrup cover creates a barrier between the stirrup and the saddle.

When should I use stirrup covers?

It is best to pull them over the cleaned, raised stirrups immediately after riding. Especially during transport, in the tack locker, or when carrying the saddle, they prevent the stirrups from rubbing directly against the saddle leather.

Are stirrup covers also useful for plastic or aluminum stirrups?

Yes. It is not just the material of the stirrup itself that can leave marks. Sand, dust, and dirt between the stirrup and the saddle act like a fine abrasive during movement. Therefore, stirrup covers can be useful regardless of the stirrup material used.

What is the difference between a stirrup cover and a saddle cover?
