What is the difference between a 3-point and a 5-point breastplate?

A 3-point breastplate is attached to the saddle and girth at three points. With a 5-point breastplate, two additional side attachments are added. This distributes the tensile forces over a larger area and stabilizes the saddle more effectively during jumps, at high speeds, and when riding cross-country.

When is the 5-point version useful?

It is particularly suitable for show jumping training, cross-country riding, eventing, and situations where the saddle is pulled backwards more forcefully. For quieter training, you can convert the breastplate into the lighter 3-point version.

Why should a breastplate not fit too tightly?

A breastplate that is adjusted too tightly can exert pressure on the chest, the base of the neck, and the shoulder area. It should stabilize the saddle without pulling constantly with every step or restricting the forward movement of the shoulder.

When does the martingale attachment work?

With a normal head carriage, it should remain largely inactive. If the horse lifts its head significantly beyond the controllable range, the rings change the angle of the reins and limit the upward movement.

What must be considered when using the martingale attachment?

The attachment must not be adjusted too short, and its rings must be able to slide freely over the reins. Martingale stops on the reins prevent the rings from getting caught on buckles or connecting pieces.

Can the breastplate be used without the martingale attachment?

Yes. The martingale attachment can be completely removed. This allows you to use the model as a pure 3-point or 5-point breastplate for stabilizing the saddle without influencing the rein guidance.

Is the breastplate permitted in competitions?

That depends on the discipline and the respective regulations. In show jumping and eventing, breastplates and correctly used running martingales are often permitted. • Do not leave unattended on the horse, especially during transport, in the pasture, or in the stall.
