When is a dressage saddle pad sufficient and when is an additional correction pad useful?

With a properly adjusted saddle, a well-fitting dressage saddle pad is generally sufficient. If you want to specifically influence pressure distribution or account for temporary changes in the horse's back, an additional correction pad like our SUNRIDE Cloud One can be useful. However, a fundamentally ill-fitting saddle should not be permanently compensated for with a pad.

Why should the saddle pad not lie flat against the withers?

If it lies taut over the withers, the rider's weight can create additional pressure. Therefore, it should be carefully pulled up into the saddle gullet when saddling. The anatomical shape and the soft faux fur insert help maintain clearance in this sensitive area.

Can the faux fur insert at the withers reduce chafing?

Yes. The soft material reduces direct friction between the saddle pad and the coat at this sensitive spot. However, it is a prerequisite that the saddle pad and saddle are positioned correctly and that there is sufficient clearance over the withers.

Why does the saddle pad have both saddle attachment straps and girth loops?

Both fastenings stabilize the saddle pad at different points. The upper straps connect it to the saddle, while the girth loops provide additional fixation via the girth. This ensures it stays more securely in its intended position even during more expressive movement.

Is the dressage saddle pad with rhinestones also suitable for competitions?

It is visually designed for both training and competition. Which decorations are permitted in a specific test, however, depends on the currently applicable rulebook. The FN updates its equipment catalog annually. For international FEI dressage tests, there are also specific requirements regarding the color and design of saddle pads.

How should I care for the saddle pad with rhinestones when washing?

Close the Velcro fasteners before washing and use a laundry bag if possible to protect the rhinestone details and other textiles. Wash the saddle pad according to the care label and then let it dry completely.

Why should a sweaty saddle pad be removed from the saddle after riding?

Sweat and moisture can collect in the material. If you hang the saddle pad up openly to dry after training, the trapped moisture can escape more easily, and it will be pleasantly dry for the next use.
