What is the difference between fleece bandages and elastic training bandages?
Fleece bandages are soft, supple, and lightly padded due to the material itself. Elastic bandages fit more snugly against the horse's leg and can provide a stronger, more even pressure. Fleece bandages are therefore particularly suitable when protection against brushing and interference needs to be combined with a soft, flexible wrap.
How do fleece bandages protect the horse's leg during training?
They cover a large area of the lower horse's leg and form a soft barrier against brushing, minor knocks, and interference. As a result, the skin, coat, and underlying structures can be protected from external impacts. However, for very strong impact loads, sturdy protective boots offer a higher level of mechanical protection.
What is the difference between fleece bandages and boots?
Fleece bandages conform individually to the shape of the horse's leg and protect a large surface area. Boots, on the other hand, usually have firmer protective areas and are quicker to put on. Which option is more suitable therefore depends on the horse, the type of training, and the level of protection desired.
How must fleece bandages be applied correctly?
The bandage should be wrapped evenly, without wrinkles, and with constant tension. Each layer should overlap the previous one so that no individual areas are subjected to excessive pressure. Uneven pressure can cause swelling and strain on the tendons.
Can fleece bandages be useful for filled legs?
Even pressure and movement can support fluid circulation in the horse's leg. This can be helpful for horses whose legs swell slightly after long periods of rest. However, for longer periods of standing or for bandaging overnight, stable bandages specifically designed for this purpose, used with suitable padding, are the more appropriate choice.
How are the fleece bandages washed?
The bandages are machine washable. Close the Velcro fasteners before washing and use a laundry bag if possible so that the fasteners do not attach to other textiles. The anti-pilling treatment helps to keep the surface looking well-maintained even with regular use.
