On a circle, the load and movement patterns also change compared to a straight line. This is precisely why correct training with a cavesson can be so valuable: position, bend, and balance can be developed without necessarily having to exert influence via the horse's mouth.

What is the difference between a cavesson and a standard halter?

A halter is primarily intended for leading, tying, and everyday handling. A cavesson, on the other hand, is a training tool for lunging and groundwork. Thanks to the attachment options on the noseband, aids can be transmitted more precisely to the horse's head without necessarily having to exert pressure via a bit. The FN also explicitly lists the cavesson as equipment for groundwork.

Why is a cavesson particularly suitable for lunging?

The lunge line can be attached directly to the cavesson, allowing for contact with the horse's head without having to pull on the bit. This makes it possible to work on positioning, bending, and changes of direction more effectively. Can the cavesson be used entirely without a bit?

Yes. That is precisely one of its major advantages. You can lunge your horse and work from the ground bitless. If you would like to use a bit as well later on, detachable bit hangers can be added to this model.

How should a cavesson fit correctly?

The noseband should lie on the stable area of the nasal bone and not sit too low. At the same time, the cavesson must be adjusted so that it does not slide significantly during lateral aids without constricting the horse's head. A correctly fitted noseband should also leave sufficient space and not impair breathing.

Which ring is used for lunging?

For classic lunging, the lunge line is usually attached to the middle ring on the noseband. This ensures that the lunge line acts centrally on the cavesson, and the head is not guided one-sidedly via the bit during a change of direction. The other rings expand the possibilities for in-hand work and other forms of training.

What are the included reins for?

The reins extend the use of the cavesson beyond groundwork and also enable riding. A bit can be attached using the detachable bit hangers, allowing the cavesson to be used as a bridle. This is particularly practical for training young horses, as groundwork, lunging, and initial work under saddle can be built up using a familiar bridle.
