horse sweat contains the special protein latherin? It lowers the surface tension of the sweat, thereby helping it to spread to the surface of the hair despite the dense coat. This is exactly where a good sweat rug comes in: it absorbs this moisture and supports the natural evaporation process, allowing your horse to dry and cool down in a controlled manner.

How long should the sweat rug remain on the horse?

It should remain on the horse until the coat is largely dry and there is no longer any significant moisture beneath the rug. Afterwards, it should be removed or replaced with a rug suitable for the stabling conditions and temperature.

Why shouldn't a sweaty horse simply be covered with a stable or winter rug?

A classic stable or winter rug is primarily intended to provide warmth. A sweat rug, on the other hand, wicks moisture away from the coat to the outside. If a still-damp horse is covered directly with an unsuitable warming rug, moisture can accumulate underneath and create an unpleasantly clammy climate.

Why is sweat-wicking particularly important for horses with a winter coat?

Thick winter coats can retain a lot of moisture after exercise and take correspondingly longer to dry. If the coat remains wet, the horse can cool down more quickly, especially in low temperatures. A sweat rug supports the drying process while keeping the horse comfortably warm in the meantime.

Can the sweat rug also be used after washing the horse?

Yes, although excess water should be removed from the coat first. For larger amounts of water, our Equitowel is suitable, as it can absorb a particularly large amount of moisture directly. Afterwards, the sweat rug can wick the remaining moisture away from the coat and support further drying.

How do I know that the sweat rug is wicking moisture to the outside?

When sweat-wicking, the outside of the rug may feel increasingly damp. This is generally desirable, as moisture is absorbed from the coat, passed through the material, and can then evaporate on the surface.

What should I do if my horse is very sweaty after training?

For larger amounts of sweat, you can first remove as much moisture as possible from the coat with the SUNRIDE Equitowel. The sweat rug will then take over the further transport of moisture and support uniform drying.

• Use only for the intended purpose as a sweat rug for moisture transport and temperature regulation.
• Do not use directly on open wounds, skin injuries, or severely irritated skin areas.
• Check for damage, loose seams, tears, or defective fasteners before each use.
• If the rug is damaged or shows significant signs of wear, it must no longer be used.
• Check the fit regularly to avoid pressure marks or chafing.
• Do not leave on the horse unattended, especially in the stable or in the pasture, if there is a risk of it getting caught.
• Do not make any unauthorized modifications or repairs to the product.
• Clean only according to the care label – do not use chemical cleaning agents, bleach, or solvents.
• Allow to dry completely after cleaning before the rug is used again or stored.
• Do not store or dry near open flames, heat sources, or chemical substances.
