a conventional lithium power bank can, in extreme cases of a cell defect, short circuit, or severe overheating, enter a state known as thermal runaway? In this process, the cell continues to heat itself up until it can lead to a fire or even an explosive failure. This is exactly why, for the St. Moritz heated blanket, we deliberately choose a LiFePO4 battery from EREMIT instead of an ordinary power bank: Lithium iron phosphate is thermally more stable than many other lithium cell chemistries. Additionally, the integrated BMS monitors the battery and automatically shuts it down in the event of a short circuit, overcharging, deep discharge, or overheating.

Why is a second battery useful for the heated blanket?

With a spare battery, you can use two batteries interchangeably. While one is charging, the second is available for the heated blanket. This is particularly practical for regular use in the stable, at tournaments, or while on the go.

What is a BMS and why is it important for a heated blanket?

The Battery Management System, or BMS for short, monitors the battery during charging and discharging. Among other things, it protects against short circuits, overcharging, deep discharge, and critical temperatures. In addition, the individual cells are monitored and balanced.

How long does it take to fully charge the battery?

With the charger included with the heated blanket, the charging time is around six hours. The longer charging time is intentionally designed for gentle charging. A moderate charging current puts less strain on the cells, reduces heat generation, and helps maintain the long-term lifespan of the LiFePO4 battery.

Does the battery need to be removed from the heated blanket for charging?

No. You can either take it out and charge it separately or leave it in the heated blanket and connect it via the cable provided for this purpose.

Does the battery lose energy if the heated blanket is not used for a long time?

Only to a small extent. EREMIT specifies a self-discharge rate of less than two percent per month for this battery. As a result, a large portion of the stored energy is retained even during longer periods of disuse.
