What is the difference between stable bandages and exercise bandages?

Why do horses' legs swell up overnight or during long periods of standing?

When there is little movement, the return transport of fluid from the lower limbs is less supported. As a result, fluid can collect in the tissue, making the legs appear swollen. Movement and regular turnout help counteract such swelling.

Do I need stable bandages pads under stable bandages?

Yes. Stable bandages should be used with suitable stable bandage pads. The padding helps distribute pressure more evenly and protects the horse's leg from excessive pressure on specific areas caused by the bandage. You can find suitable SUNRIDE bandage pads in our shop. Uneven pressure can damage tendons.

How tightly should stable bandages be applied?

They should be wrapped evenly, without wrinkles, and with constant tension. Bandages that are too loose can slip and cause pressure points, while bandages that are applied too tightly or unevenly can strain tendons and tissue.

When is leg swelling not simply due to a lack of movement?

If swelling is sudden, significantly unilateral, warm, or painful, or if lameness occurs, you should not simply assume it is normal leg swelling. Swelling can have various causes and should be evaluated by a veterinarian in such cases.

How are the stable bandages cleaned?

The bandages are machine washable. Close the Velcro fasteners before washing and preferably use a laundry bag so they do not snag on other textiles.
