Did you know that...
an important function of winter blankets is to protect older and sick horses as well as clipped horses from getting chilled? Older horses often struggle with a weaker immune system and are more susceptible to the cold. Clipped horses, which no longer have a natural layer of insulation, are particularly sensitive to cold and therefore require a reliable outdoor blanket to protect their bodies from hypothermia.

FAQ
What distinguishes “Hook&Hold” from other systems?
With SUNRIDE, you don't need to read up on which rugs are compatible with our system, because all of our outer rugs – whether winter, rain, or stable rugs – are equipped with “Hook&Hold.” This means you can attach one or even two under-rugs at any time without any effort. You can find all the details above under the "Hook&Hold" section.
Is the “Hook&Hold” system compatible with rugs from other manufacturers?
Our innovative combination technology has been developed specifically for our own outer and under rugs and is therefore not compatible with rugs from other manufacturers. This is the only way we can ensure that all parts fit together perfectly and function reliably – for maximum comfort and safety for your horse.
What does “1200D Ripstop” mean and why is it important?
1200D refers to the strength and weave of the stable rug. It stands for the material density of the fabric, where “D” stands for denier, a unit of measurement for the thickness of the fibers. Ripstop describes a special weaving technique in which reinforced fibers are woven into a grid pattern. This structure prevents small tears from spreading, making the outdoor rug more durable and resistant to damage. These properties are particularly important to ensure that the winter rug lasts a long time and is not easily damaged even under heavy use, such as in pasture turnout or with horses that move around a lot.
What does JIS certified mean?
A JIS certification for horse rugs means that the product complies with common industry standards. This certification is comparable to other international norms such as ISO standards and ensures that the horse rugs meet certain quality requirements. JIS standards concern both material quality and workmanship, ensuring that the product is safe and reliable. For a rain rug, for example, a JIS certification could confirm that the winter rug protects against rain while remaining breathable and containing no harmful substances. Such a certification provides confidence that the product meets the high standards required for the manufacture and safety of equestrian products.
How easy is the material to care for?
Our horse rugs are very easy to care for and can be machine washed at 30 degrees. This makes cleaning uncomplicated and fast. However, we would like to point out that repeated washing may slightly weaken the waterproofing of the outdoor rug over time. To maintain the water resistance and protection of the winter rug, we recommend retreating the stable rug regularly or using special waterproofing agents.
How is breathability ensured?
The breathability of our horse rugs is ensured by the Ripstop fabric used, which has an air permeability of 3,000 g/m². This allows moisture and heat to escape from the horse while simultaneously keeping moisture from the outside out. That is why it is important that rain rugs do not have a water column exceeding 5,000 mm. A higher water column would impair breathability, causing the horse to sweat quickly under the winter rug.
Can moisture or heat accumulate under the stable rug?
Thanks to the high breathability of our horse rugs and the Ripstop fabric technology used, moisture or heat cannot accumulate under the winter rug. The outdoor rug allows for effective ventilation so that excess heat and moisture are released while rain and wetness remain outside. This way, your horse stays dry and comfortable without unpleasant heat buildup occurring under the stable rug.
What does 3000 g/m² breathability mean?
This specification describes how well moisture (e.g., sweat) is transported to the outside through the material to ensure a pleasant climate for the horse. In this case, 3000 grams of water vapor per square meter of material can escape within one day. This keeps the horse dry and prevents overheating or moisture buildup.
Is the neck cover included or must it be purchased separately?
The neck cover is not included in the delivery and must be purchased separately. This gives you the flexibility to decide if and when you need it, and allows you to expand your winter rug individually.
Is the neck cover also waterproof and breathable?
Yes, the neck cover is also waterproof and breathable. It is made from the same material as the stable rug and has the same water column, so your horse remains optimally protected. You can also find all further details on this directly on our website under the product.
How visible are the reflective elements in low light or from a great distance?
At twilight and in complete darkness, the reflective elements of the rain rug are extremely visible – even from a great distance. They work on the same principle as safety vests in cars, thus ensuring maximum visibility and safety for your horse. A mobile phone flash or a mobile phone flashlight is enough to make the reflective elements clearly visible.

Description
- Hook&Hold – combine flexibly, secure reliably: Our clever solution that helps you connect SUNRIDE outer rugs and under-rugs securely and quickly. With a loop and hook-and-loop fastener at the front and a practical clip system at the back, everything stays in place—even when moving. This system is a flexible companion, especially during rapidly changing weather. You can combine a maximum of two under-rugs with one outer rug.
- 1200D Ripstop – maximum strength, long-lasting protection: Due to its special weave structure, this material is particularly tear-resistant and durable. It offers excellent protection against external elements such as rain, wind, and dirt, while remaining long-lasting and easy to care for. Even with intensive use, the material stands up to the task and ensures your horse is reliably protected.
- 100g filling – lighter than expected, warmer than you think: The 100g filling of the SUNRIDE turnout rug offers an excellent balance between warmth and breathability, ideal for cooler autumn and winter days. It provides reliable insulation without overheating the horse, offering the perfect protection in cold, but not freezing, weather. This filling is suitable for both unclipped horses that need a little more warmth and clipped horses that need extra protection during the transitional period or on chilly days.
- 3,000 mm water column – strong protection that keeps the rain out: With a water column of 3,000 mm, the SUNRIDE turnout rug reliably protects against heavy rain while maintaining its breathability. This high water column ensures the horse stays dry even during extended periods of rain. As a result, it is optimally protected even in changeable weather or sudden rain showers.
- Breathable – moisture escapes for a comfortable fit: With an ISO-certified air permeability of 3,000 g/m², this stable rug ensures optimal moisture regulation. This high level of breathability allows sweat and excess heat to be reliably released, keeping your horse dry and at a comfortable temperature. Perfect for active horses or changeable weather.
- Includes neck cover attachment – flexibly expandable for extra protection: The neck cover perfectly complements SUNRIDE rugs, covering the sensitive neck area of your horse to protect it from rain, wind, and cold. It can be attached to the horse rug in no time using a simple clip system. Especially in cold, wet weather, a neck cover can help prevent your horse from getting cold, thus reducing the risk of colds or muscle tension.
- Belly surcingles and detachable leg straps – for a secure fit and easy handling: The straps are individually adjustable and easy to open and close, making handling particularly simple. The leg straps are also detachable, allowing you to adapt the rug flexibly—ideal for your horse's needs.
- Reflective elements – more visibility for more safety: The trim of the 100g winter rug is made of reflective material, increasing the visibility and safety of your horse. It ensures that your horse is clearly visible from every perspective at dusk or in the dark.
- Optional chest extender – adapts to every horse: Optimal fit, even for broader-built horses or those between two sizes. This clever feature allows for individual adjustment, ensuring the stable rug sits comfortably and guarantees maximum freedom of movement. Whether it’s a broad neck or special proportions, the chest extender makes the winter rug versatile and adaptable to almost any body shape. This ensures your horse remains fully protected and comfortable at all times.
- Practical storage bag – neatly stowed and ready to hand: The matching bag protects your equipment from dust and dirt when not in use and ensures organized storage in the stable, locker, or horsebox. At the same time, you can keep the products compactly together and take them along conveniently to training or tournaments.
